“WONDERFUL piece, Linda - I'm amazed at your ability to be so
universally evocative while retaining your own distinctive voice.
Not an easy thing to do and you pull it off brilliantly well!”
Les Marsden, Music Director and Conductor
Mariposa Symphony Orchestra
Images Dangereuses is reminiscent of a film noir of the 1950’s. It is cinema in black and white, starring actors who will fade into the mists of history without achieving fame. It tells a story that is as old as time with lust, greed, and danger at its core. Opening credits roll as the camera pans along a dark Parisian street. Rain gently falls, casting a cloak of mystery in the air. The area is alive with people all heading toward their various destinies. Puddles reflect lights, projecting sinister stars in the gutters. A tavern door opens. The sound of popular music wafts outside, along with the smells of acrid smoke and cheap perfume. A distant siren breaks through the revelry, alerting all to the dangers of the night. The camera moves inside, revealing a seedy, yet crowded bar filled with people. To one side a couple dance in the dim light while a whiskey-voiced singer wails heartbreak and grief. The band plays on, oblivious to the criminal activity taking place in front of the stage. The tango begins. A dagger glints in the shadows, jewels are stolen, and confusion reins. Someone cries for help while others slink off into the doorways of dark alleys to continue their handiwork.
It is a midnight drenched in dreams and sorrows.
